Leaked Photos - Is This The Toyota Prius C?

Carscoop has posted scans of a brochure from Japan potentially featuring the newest member of the Prius family - the Prius C.  As you will see, the brochure is in Japanese, so it can not be confirmed this is the Prius C, but according to the article "in one of the spec sheets, it appears that Toyota compares the Prius C with several rivals in Japan including the Mazda2 13-Skyactive."

Also from the article: "So, when and where will we see the new Prius C making its debut? The JDM model will receive its world premiere at the Tokyo Motor Show in December while Toyota recently revealed that the North American debut would take place in Detroit in January of 2012.

During the U.S. media presentation of the new Prius Plug-in Hybrid in California in mid-September, Toyota Division Group Vice President and General Manager, Bob Carter, mentioned the new Prius C in his speech: "The Prius v will be followed by the Prius Plug-in next March, and the Prius c will follow in the Spring," said Carter. "The Prius c will offer expressive styling in a city-friendly vehicle that we believe will be the most fuel efficient hybrid without a plug in the U.S. While we showed you a “c Concept” at this year’s Detroit Auto Show, we will be debuting the production Prius c for the first time in Detroit this coming January."

All New Camry To Pace the Field at 2012 Daytona 500

The all-new 2012 Toyota Camry will lead the field to the green flag at the Great American Race, the Daytona 500, on February 26, 2012.

"We're thrilled to be able to feature the new Camry in Daytona at the season's biggest race,' said Ed Laukes, TMS corporate manager of motorsports marketing. 'We think the DAYTONA 500 is the perfect place to showcase the all-new Camry -- which will go on sale this fall. We knew when the opportunity arose to partner together wîth Daytona that it would be an extraordinary way to highlight our new Camry, as well as reinforce Toyota's commitment to NASCAR and its fans."

At Daytona International Speedway, Toyota drivers have recorded eight NASCAR wins across NASCAR's three national touring series, including one NSCS win (Kyle Busch in 2008), two NNS wins (Denny Hamlin in 2008 and Tony Stewart in 2008) and five NCWTS wins. In 2008, Hamlin claimed Toyota's first-ever NSCS victory in a non-points qualifying event to determine the Daytona 500 starting lineup.  Toyota has won three consecutive manufacturer's titles in the NNS (2008-2010) wîth the Camry, and Toyota racers have earned one driver's title (Kyle Busch in 2009) and registered 60 race victories in the NNS. In NSCS competition, Camry drivers have earned 36 first-place trophies.

Toyota Tops All Automakers in 2011 Best Global Brands Report

Toyota came in as the #1 Global Brand automaker in the Interbrands' Best Global Brands 2011 report.  They came in #11 overall trailing only brand heavyweights such as Coca-Cola, IBM, Apple, Microsoft, Google, and General Electric.
From the company press release:

Interbrand, a leading brand consultancy, produces its Best Global Brands report based on a unique methodology. The methodology analyzes three key aspects that contribute to a brand's value:

The financial performance of the branded products or services
The role of brand in the purchase decision process
The strength of the brand to continue to secure earnings for a company
2011 OVERVIEWDue to the volatile markets and uncertain business climate that characterized 2011, brands are in the midst of adapting to a new reality. "Uncertainty is the new status quo, so today's brands need to be quick and nimble," remarked Jez Frampton, Interbrand's Global Chief Executive Officer. "Consistency, relevance and commitment are imperative if a brand is to keep pace in our rapidly changing world."

This year's Top 100 Best Global Brands have demonstrated that, despite an erratic economic landscape, they are constantly flexing, evolving and innovating – all in an effort to meet the new needs of today's consumer. "By refining digital strategies and strengthening social networks, today's most valuable brands are creating more relevant customer engagements. These brands have seized opportunities to host richer, more tailored experiences, which, in turn, help drive longer-term loyalty and value among consumers and partners alike," noted Frampton.

AUTOMOTIVE BRANDS SHOW RESILIENCYThe past year was marked by remarkable growth in the auto industry, driven primarily by an economic recovery in classic European markets, a resurgence of the US automotive industry and high demand for cars in China.

Toyota (#11) retains its position as the #1 automotive brand in Interbrand's 2011 report. Like Nissan, Toyota exhibited great resiliency by increasing its brand value 6%. Even though Toyota faced both an internal crisis (lack of quality control in 2010) and an external crisis (Japan's earthquake in early 2011), the company forged ahead by focusing on safety and quality, modifying its leadership structure and capitalizing on its world-renown green efforts.

New Toyota Entune Now Avalaible

Imagine an interactive system in your new Toyota that helps you find destinations, browse restaurants and make reservations, buy movie tickets, listen to personalized music, get the score of your favorite team's game, get traffic and weather, and more!

Toyota is pleased to announce Entune, Toyota's new multimedia interface that combines previous disparate offerings, such as XM satellite radio and navigation functions, into one cohesive system.

Cars.com describes Entune: Entune takes a different approach to in-car multimedia systems. Instead of duplicating many of the functions your smartphone can do, Toyota’s system is intricately tied to the device. Once you download the Entune application to your smartphone, you can use the interface on Toyota’s touch-screen display. The system is composed of multiple apps, Microsoft Bing search and a voice-recognition system that Toyota says is best in class.

All of these apps are easily accessed through Entune’s voice-recognition system, which Toyota says can be used in a conversational way that’s less dictatorial or scripted as other systems. It will also read back text messages.

From www.toyota.com/entune/

Entune™ is a revolutionary in-car technology that keeps you and your Toyota connected. Featuring a collection of popular mobile apps and data services, the available Entune™ system allows you to access a wide variety of personalized content and services - all from the comfort of your Toyota vehicle.

Toyota Developing Steering Technology to Avoid Collisions

From an article form the Detroit News online, Toyota is developing technology that helps avoid collisions by controlling steering when an an object in its path is detected.

From the article:

In the new system, Toyota uses cameras and a super sensitive radar called "millimeter-wave," both installed in the front of the vehicle, to detect possible crashes such as a pedestrian crossing the road.

The vehicle calculates how braking and steering must be applied to avoid a crash. Toyota declined to say when the feature may be offered on a commercial model, or in which markets, but officials hinted it was ready to be offered soon.

New 2012 Yaris Revealed

Toyota has revealed the new 2012 Yaris  set to debut in the UK, and gives a great peak under the curtain at the version that is coming to the U.S. and Toyoya of Henderson later this fall!

From Autoblog.com (Click here for the full story and photo gallery):

Toyota UK has dropped the curtain on its new Yaris. The subcompact hatch – likely identical to the 2012 Yaris arriving in the States this fall – benefits from a more dynamic design and additional standard equipment on all but its entry-level model. All UK-bound Yaris models, 'cept for the T2 base version, feature a new Toyota "affordable multimedia connectivity" system called Touch and Go.

Over in the UK, the Yaris is offered in four trims: T2, TR, SR and T Spirit. Toyota says the "heart of the range" is the mid-level TR, which is expected to command two thirds of sales. The TR can be ordered up with any of the three available engines (1.0-liter VVT-i, 1.3-liter Dual VVT-i and 1.4-liter D-4D) and a choice of three transmissions (five-speed manual, six-speed manual and Toyota's Multidrive S CVT) in both three and five-door bodystyles. Key features of the TR include 15-inch alloy wheels, air conditioning, stability control, Bluetooth and a rear-mounted parking camera.

The three available engines start with the base 1.0-liter VVT-i gasser with 68 horsepower. Moving up, there's the 1.33-liter Dual VVT-i gasoline engine with 98 hp. Finally, the 1.4-liter D-4D diesel engine cranks out 89 hp and 151 pound-feet of torque. The fuel-sipping diesel returns an estimated 72.4 miles per imperial gallon (60.3 mpg U.S.).

While North America will undoubtedly not get all of these powertrain options, we're looking forward to seeing our own 2012 Yaris very soon.

Toyota Camry - Made in America, Building American Jobs

In a study by ABC News, the top selling U.S. vehicles were compared to see how much of their content is produced in the United Sates and how many jobs they help to create.

The ABC News "Made in America" team has asked which car would create more jobs, an American car made in the United States, or a foreign car that is also made here.  They compared the Toyota Camry, the top-selling sedan in the U.S. and the Ford Escape, the top selling SUV sold in the US.  According to their findings, not only does the Camry contain more U.S. built parts, but it also helps create  more jobs.  To see the full article and watch the video, click here.

From ABC's report:

ABC News traveled to the Ford plant in Kansas City, Mo., and the Toyota plant in Georgetown, Ky., to investigate both cars and find out which one creates the most U.S. jobs. To do that, we had to find the answers to these three questions:
Is the car assembled here?
Toyota: Yes, it takes more than 6,000 American workers to build the Camrys we buy.
Ford: Yes, it takes 2,250 workers to build the Escape.

How much of the car contains U.S. parts?
Toyota Camry: 80 percent.
Ford Escape: 65 percent.

How many cars were sold in a given year?
Toyota Camry: The most popular seller, 328,000 were sold last year.
Ford Escape: Just under 200,000 were sold in 2010.

Using that formula, the answer might not be what you think.

The U.S. brand that creates the most American jobs? The Ford Escape, which creates 13 assembly line jobs for every 100 cars sold, based on 2010 sales figures and company supplied information on how many workers actually man the assembly lines.

That is good, but doesn't top the Kentucky-built Toyota, which creates almost 20 U.S.-based manufacturing jobs for every 100 cars sold.

Future Product - Next Generation Prius Design Concept

The Prius has always been at the forefront of combining fuel economy, hybrid technology and design to new levels unequaled in the auto industry.  Here are some insights into the next generation Prius where wind resistance is a major component of the design concept.  Here is an article from carscoop.com with some more details and images.

From the carscoop article:

As part of last year’s Toyota Design Internship, industrial designer Eric Leong produced this interesting take on the fourth-generation Toyota Prius for the year 2015.
By acknowledging that wind resistance is one of the key factors in improving vehicle economy, Leong’s Prius III hybrid is extremely slippery. Described by the designer as moving, “through [the wind], not into it”, this design study channels air over its surface through a series of vanes.
And there are some nice little design touches as well such as the wraparound glasshouse, one-piece windscreen and roof and the transparent wing mirror arms / turn indicators.
